Additional water tankers have been secured to deliver water to water tanks and filling points across the Greater Hermanus, after taps have run dry due to damage to water pipelines.
Assistance was received from the City of Cape Town, Drakenstein Municipality as well as the Overberg and Garden Route District Municipalities to deliver drinking water to various water points last week and over the weekend.
The two 33 000L tankers from Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages, two tankers (35 000L and 7 000L) from George Municipality and the 18 000L tanker from Mossel Bay Municipality continue to assist in transporting water from Stanford to supply the smaller tankers that distribute the water to communities within the Greater Hermanus area.
Interesting to note, the estimated amount of water supplied was ± 120 Kl of water on 27 and 28 September, 169 Kl on 29 September, 235 Kl on 30 September, 268 Kl on 1 October and 202 Kl on 2 October 2023.
Residents are once again reminded that water restrictions are still in place and to please use water sparingly.
Businesses can go to Stanford to fill their own containers between 09:00 – 17:00. The fire hydrant is situated on the corner of Bezuidenhout and Queen Victoria Street in Stanford. They are allowed a maximum of 1 000L of water per day.
Mayor Rabie and her team once again thanked everyone who have done (and is still doing) sterling work over to ensure that we can supply water to our residents.
